Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley says that his team must begin a good run of form at home to fellow promotion challengers Buxton at the Brewery Field today.

Buxton are one of Moors’ main rivals, lying second in the table following their midweek win over Hednesford, while Moors have dropped to ninth because of their defeat at home to Grantham a fortnight ago and their inactivity since.

They still have games in hand on everyone above them, and that is reflected in two midweek games in the next two weeks.

“We need to put a run of results together,” said Ainsley.

“We need to put some points on the board and keep the pressure on the teams around us. We seem to have played catch up for a long time now, for one reason or another, and now we’re in a position in which we can’t afford to slip any further behind.

“We need to start winning games against teams in the top six. We’ve only beaten one of the top six so far this season, so we need to improve on that record. Having said that, no team we’ve played this season has been superior to us, we seem to have five or ten minute spells in which we make sloppy mistakes and concede goals.

“The games will come thick and fast now, we have midweek games coming up, so we have an opportunity to climb the table quickly.”

Striker Nathan Fisher, and defenders Chris Mason and Kallum Griffiths will all have fitness tests.

Meanwhile, leaders Blyth are at Stourbridge, and Whitby are at home to Barwell.
