Bookings: Kavanagh (foul 27); Collins (foul 30); Woods (foul 42); Laurent (foul 65); Walker (90, foul), Young (90, unsporting behaviour)

Referee: Darren Handley (Bolton): Missed Amond being felled off the ball by Yorwerth, but who would have seen it? Didn’t do much else wrong? 6

Attendance: 4,266

Entertainment: 1/5

CRAWLEY TOWN (4-4-2): Morris 5; Yorwerth 6, McNerney 6, Connolly 7; Young 7, Payne 6, Smith 7, Clifford 5 (Henderson 86), Cox 7 (Roberts 70, 5); Collins 6, Boldewijn 4 (Bawling 74). Subs (not used): Mersin (gk), Blackman, Djalo, Watt.

HARTLEPOOL UNITED (3-5-2):

6 Bartlett: Did what was asked throughout, even if his first-half kicking was a bit off key

7 Harrison: Attacking the ball with power and determination again and thrown up front in the closing minutes to add something different to the mix

6 Bates: Playing as the middle man in a back three suits him no end. Reads the game so well and enjoys taking the ball out of defence

6 Donnelly: Slotted into the left sided centre-half spot seamlessly, no nonsense defending and had the measure of the home attack in the main;

4 Richards: One stupid mistake in allowing Cox the chance to cut across him and deliver a decisive ball into the area was the difference in avoiding defeat and losing

3 Laurent: Started poorly and didn’t get much better as the game passed him by. Always an outsider in the game

5 Featherstone: Always a midfield option, but too pedestrian at times. Can play with some drive and now he has to start showing it

5 Woods: He is capable of unlocking defences, but he’s not managing it at the minute. Three central midfielders should be ideally suited for his talent

6 Kavanagh: Like against Grimsby on debut, he didn’t let anyone down and went close to scoring again;

5 Amond: Felled by an early off-the-ball dig and forced off in the second half because of it. Service was non-existent

3 Alessandra: Offered nothing up front, ran about, but too weak on the ball and brushed off it without much fuss.

Subs:

Paynter (for Amond 61): Never got into the game, hardly had a chance 5

Oates (for Richards 80)

Walker (for Woods 86)

(not used): Dudzinski (gk), Deverdics, Hawkins, Martin.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Jimmy Smith – home captain may have been a moaner and niggly throughout, but he was influential.
