Buxton 1 Spennymoor Town 1.

Spennymoor were disappointed with a point from their away draw at title contenders Buxton on Saturday.

Fresh from their FA Cup exploits and a battling 3-3 draw at Grantham in midweek, Moors could have had more than just a point from their second long distance trip of the week to Buxton, but their finishing let them down.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; “Before the game we would have taken a draw because Buxton are going well, but we’ve come away disappointed with just a point because we created plenty of chances. We had chances cleared off the line and hit the woodwork.

“But on the other hand, when you’re 2-1 down and come back to 2-2 with just a few minutes left, then you can be happy with a point.”

Moors started the game well, and took the lead after just three minutes when Jamie Chandler pounced on a loose ball after Buxton keeper Jan Budtz didn’t gather.

Graeme Armstrong nearly made it 2-0 from long range, but Buxton levelled before half time when Joel Bembo-Leta scored from a free kick which Moors keeper Dan Lowson misjudged.

James Curtis then had an effort cleared off the Buxton line, and at the start of the second half Kallum Griffiths hit the post with a free kick.

Sub Tom Craddock burst through one-on-one but put his shot wide, but Buxton were to score next, with Lee Bennett finishing off a good move.

Craddock was denied by Budtz as Moors piled forward, and their pressure paid off when Chandler cracked in the equaliser from the edge of the box.

And the midfielder nearly won it for Moors at the end, but Budtz pulled off a good save.

Moors: Lowson, Griffiths, Curtis, Tait, Mason, Ramshaw, Chandler, Gott (sub Anderson), Henry, Armstrong (sub Craddock), Dowson (sub Johnson).

Whitby stayed top of the table with a 2-1 away win at Barwell, with Mikey Roberts scoring twice before Barwell replied late in the game.

Blyth beat Stourbridge 2-1 thanks to a last ditch penalty save by Adam McHugh. Nathan Buddle and Robbie Dale scored for Blyth.

Blyth keeper Peter Jeffries, the hero of their FA Cup win over Hartlepool two seasons ago, has decided to hang up his gloves at the age of 29.
