Spennymoor ended up a topsy-turvy week by beating Stafford Rangers and moving up to fourth in the EvoStik Premier Division.

Moors sank to their lowest point of the season so far when they lost 1-0 to Whitby in the league on Tuesday, but confidence was restored with a good win over Stafford.

And with Buxton, Blyth and Whitby all losing above them, Moors are now four points off the top of the table with two games in hand.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; “It was a good reaction from Tuesday night, it was just what we wanted from that performance.

“We played well in the first half and we should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up instead of just the one. We created lots of chances, hit the underside of the bar but we couldn’t put them away.

“The second half was edgy only with the fact that we didn’t have the cushion of a second goal and they were dangerous from set plays but we thoroughly deserved the three points.”

Moors settled down thanks to an early 6th minute goal, given to them when Nathan Fisher set up to Glen Taylor to tap in.

Fisher then fired straight at the Stafford keeper, Shane Henry hit the bar from 30 yards, while Kallum Griffiths almost celebrated his 300th appearance with a strike from 25 yards.

In the second half, Mark Anderson was just off target as Moors searched for another, and they were rescued when Griffiths headed off the line near the end.

Team: Lowson, Griffiths, Mason, Chandler, Curtis, Swain, Ramshaw, Henry, Taylor (sub Armstrong), Fisher (sub Dowson), Anderson (sub Gott).

Attendance 531 Whitby’s unbeaten start came to an end in their ninth league game when they lost 2-1 at Stourbridge, Adam Gell scoring their goal to put them back into the game after Stourbridge went 2-0 up.

Tom Wade’s last game as Blyth manager was a losing one as they lost 4-3 at Corby Town.

They trailed 3-1 with three minutes left, but then Robbie Dale and Sean Reid levelled, but Corby scored the winner in stoppage time and clinch their first win of the season. Alun Armstrong will be in charge for the home game with Spennymoor on Tuesday night.
