GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM and Florian Thauvin have both been added to Newcastle's squad for this evening's friendly with Doncaster - despite having initially been left off the team sheet.

The pair, who have both been heavily linked with a move away from St James' Park this summer, were not named in Newcastle's original selection at the Keepmoat Stadium.

However, after warming up with the rest of the squad, they could not be involved in tonight's game.

Wijnaldum is the subject of strong interest from Liverpool, and having held a number of discussions with their Newcastle counterparts over the last two days, officials at Anfield are close to agreeing a £25m move for Wijnaldum, who cost the Magpies £14.5m when he joined from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

Wijnaldum played and scored in Newcastle's 6-0 win over Irish side Bohemian at the weekend, but could be confirmed as a Liverpool player within the next 48 hours.

Thauvin is the subject of interest from both Marseille and Lazio, having struggled to establish himself on Tyneside in the last 12 months.

Newcastle have named a strong starting side with Aleksandar Mitrovic playing after recovering from a knock.

Jamaal Lascelles continues as skipper - a role he could well fill on a full-time basis next season - with Adam Armstrong set to play in the 'number ten' role in the opening 45 minutes.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Sels; Janmaat, Mbemba, Lascelles, Anita; Shelvey, Colback; Ritchie, Armstrong, Aarons; Mitrovic.

Subs: Darlow, Sterry, Dummett, Gamez, Hayden, Tiote, Saivet, Gouffran, Perez, Gayle, Thauvin, Wijnaldum.
