FOUR of the region’s European Tour pros will be turning up at the Wentworth Club today looking to stun a star studded field in the BMW PGA Championship.

Graeme Storm, Rob Dinwiddie, John Parry and Simon Dyson are competing with US Masters champion Danny Willett as well as Close House’s Lee Westwood and Ryder Cup team-mates Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer, Darren Clarke, Justin Rose and Graeme McDowell.

Hartlepool’s Storm is looking for improvements after failing to find top gear so far. He missed the cut at the Irish Open last weekend, but has finished in the money in four of his previous five tournaments.

Harrogate’s Parry is yet to make a cut this year and has not played competitively for a month. Dinwiddie, from Barnard Castle, did collect £8,000 at the K Club last weekend and is in the best shape of the four having earned three top 30 finishes so far in 2016.

But York’s Dyson, who returned to action this year after injury cost him last year, is another struggling to get going. He has missed two cuts since finishing 69th in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February.

A STRONG group of the area’s youngsters have qualified for the north regional finals of the Wee Wonders Championships from last weekend’s North-East qualifiers.

Taylor Lloyd, Junior Dobson, Freddie Bremner, Evan Snook, Nathan Bremner, Oliver Bremner and Will Carr will head for Leeds Golf Centre on Sunday, July 24 after impressing at Matfen Hall.

Benjamin Miller, Amy Buchanan, Ella-Rose Jackson, Zara Naughton, Morgan Bailey, Anais Sore and Lucca Jackson have all been invited to take part too. Jackson won at Matfen by posting a 37-shot gross score.

Jackson and his Seaton Carew team-mate Jack Burton – who won the Wee Wonders last year - will also be heading to Gullane on Tuesday for a three-day European Championships as part of the US Kids Championship programme.

GRAEME Baxter, an artist who specialises in painting top golf courses across the world, has unveiled his latest work of art – the first hole at Rockliffe Hall.

Baxter, originally from Scotland but now lives in Palm Springs, USA, is the official artist to more golf events than any other artist, including the Open Championship and The Ryder Cup, as well as the PGA and European Tour.

He joined Rockliffe’s chairman, Warwick Brindle, and members of the club to unveil the painting last week. Brindle said: “We’ve been keen to commission an official painting of Rockliffe’s fantastic golf course for some time and considered Graeme the best person for the job. He has painted some of the world’s most famous courses and we’re delighted that he can now add Rockliffe Hall to that list.”
