EXCELLENT bowling by James Weighell raised Durham's hopes of staying afloat as they reduced Warwickshire to 102 for eight at lunch.

The lead is 225 and the pitch is nowhere near bad enough to warrant the fall of 18 wickets in the last three sessions, so Durham will feel they are still in the game.

After bowling two wicketless overs for eight runs yesterday evening, Weighell now has four for 27, giving him eight in the match.

Graham Onions also bowled well without reward for the first hour, while Weighell removed Andy Umeed and Ian Bell.

Extra bounce produced an edged catch from the opener, and Bell was pinned by a full yorker, which struck him on the foot.

When Barry McCarthy replaced Weighell his first over cost eight, but in his third he had Varun Chopra lbw with a ball which brushed the pad on the way through to Michael Richardson.

Weighell was recalled with immediate success as Sam Hain shaped to cut his first ball and chopped it into his stumps.

Jonathan Trott had looked full of purpose after coming in at 46 for four, but after making 26 he edged a drive at Brydon Carse straight to Paul Collingwood at first slip.

In the last over before lunch Tim Ambrose tried to pull Weighell and edged the ball on to his thigh before it popped up for Mark Stoneman to hold the catch at short leg.
