Spennymoor Town 6 Kendal 1 Spennymoor striker Nathan Fisher hit four as Moors returned to form with a vengeance in a 6-1 win against Kendal at the Brewery Field.

The pre-match spotlight was on new signing David Dowson from Darlington, but instead it was Fisher, another former Darlington forward, who was the scoring hero.

Moors manager Jason Ainsley said; “This win has given us all a lift, because we haven’t been playing as well at home as we have been away. Some of our recent performances haven’t been as good as we expect. Nathan took his goals well, and yet we could have scored more because we had some good chances. At 1-1, I thought it was going to be another one of those days. Hopefully we can kick on from here, and climb further up the table.”

“Dowsa admitted that he wasn’t match fit, but he still led the line well and caused Kendal a few problems.”

Fisher scored his first goal on 6 minutes when he beat two defenders and fired into the bottom corner.

But Moors couldn’t add to their lead, and the Cumbrians levelled when Moors keeper Dan Lowson failed to hold a cross, and Adam Freeland scored from the loose ball.

Moors missed several chances to increase their lead until the 48th minute when Shane Henry opened up the defence for Fisher to beat the Kendal keeper.

He scored his hat trick from a rebound after Mark Anderson’s shot was blocked, and then Kendal were reduced to ten men when Freeland was dismissed for pulling back Dowson when he was trying to burst through. Kallum Griffiths cleverly curled the following free kick around the wall to make it 4-1.

Henry sidefooted the fifth with 6 minutes left, then Fisher scored his fourth from a Gavin Cogdon pass.

Moors are away at Harrogate RA tonight.

In the premier division, Whitby beat Workington 1-0 thanks to a goal by Mikey Roberts.

Manager Chris Hardy said; "The result was nothing less than we deserved, on a difficult playing surface the boys went about their business in a excellent manner producing some real eye-catching football that should've seen us out of sight in this fixture.

"I feel that it should also we mentioned about the concentration levels that we maintained up until the final whistle given the fact we didn't achieve daylight between our selves and Workington, it was of the upmost importance that we didn't allow a lapse in concentration."
