GARY ANDERSON will return to action when the Betway Premier League Darts resumes at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena on Thursday.

The reigning Premier League champion was ruled out of last Thursday's opening night in Leeds through illness, and also missed the weekend's UK Open Qualifiers in Wigan.

However, Anderson will make his return to action against Michael van Gerwen in Thursday's second league night, to be held in the North-East.

Anderson, who claimed his second PDC World title last month, is also set to compete in the weekend's Dutch Darts Masters European Tour event in Venray.

Tomorrow's other Premier League games see Michael Smith take on Robert Thornton, Raymond van Barneveld line up against Peter Wright, Adrian Lewis lock horns with Dave Chisnall and James Wade come up against Phil Taylor in the final game of the night.
