HARTLEPOOL United boss had no complaints after last night’s game at Accrington Stanley was washed out.

Pools game at the Wham Stadium was called off shortly before 7pm by referee Darren Drysdale following a lengthy pitch inspection.

Drysdale had already decreed the pitch was unplayable, but waited for Moore and the Pools team to arrive before taking a final check and making the call.

Moore, who had opted to change formation and would also have had Michael Duckworth returning from injury last night, admitted: “You can’t stop on the surface, it’s dangerous for the players – and yet this pitch is miles better than it was a couple of weeks ago when they played Newport!.

“That game should never have been played and John Coleman (Accrington boss) feels it would be OK tonight.

“Everyone has to make a decision and for me it’s the right one on safety grounds.

“Second-half, kicking down the hill into the water wouldn’t be much fun for anyone – it all runs down the pitch into the corner. It’s the right decision, we don’t want to come back here again we want to play.

“You can’t see puddles visible on the pitch, but walk on it and in the corners and other areas it’s flooded.’’

Pools take on Oxford at Victoria Park on Saturday and Moore’s reserve side take on Burnley this afternoon.

Playing the first-team today after last night’s washout was in his thoughts, although a training session is the more likely option.

He admitted: “We’ve a reserve game against Burnley – we don’t know to take the first-team now, but it’s Wednesday and with Saturday in mind, who knows? It’s food for thought. We did plan changes tonight to the team.

“We are at Burnley, and they have a strong side – do we take the first-team or train at Durham? If we play and someone gets injured then it’s not clever, but then someone could get injured in training anyway.

“We will train I would imagine at Durham.’’

Of the decision to call it off, he added: “No more rain was due, but it’s come down again and hand on heart it’s the right decision.

“I’ve played on worse pitches, but the referee is always wary and he looks a prat if he has to call it off during the game because people will say it should never have started.

“All officials have made the right decision, each corner of the pitch is dangerous. Supporters would probably have loved it, seeing everyone slipping and sliding and it could have ended five each!

“When I got here it was off, but the referee waited for me to get here. The forecast was no more rain, which is why the referee did say he was going to wait until eight o’clock rather than quarter to.

“When the rain started to come again it shows it wasn’t going to make the pitch any lighter. You start the game and then call it off and it doesn’t look good.’’

Moore yesterday extended the loan spell of midfielder Jake Gray for a further month from Crystal Palace, meaning he stays at Victoria Park until January 4.

The manager said: “We are all delighted – and fair play to the lad because he wanted to stay and there’s been a lot of teams looking and asking about him since the game with Orient.

“He said that we gave him a chance and he wants to stay so full credit to him – it would have been nice to see what he would be like in a different formation tonight.’’

The newly-formed Hartlepool United Supporters Trust this evening hold their launch party at the Corner Flag at Victoria Park.

Starting at 7.30pm, the trust will be holding a q&a with supporters and outlying their programme ahead of electing a committee.
