RONNIE MOORE plans to make changes to his Hartlepool United side again this evening.

The Pools boss hopes right-back Michael Duckworth is fit to start at Accrington, while he is also likely to recall Rhys Oates ahead of the right-back.

Centre-half Scott Harrison replaced Duckworth in the defeat at Mansfield on Saturday, an experiment Moore won’t be repeating.

Pools were poor in the second-half at Mansfield, conceding two goals as they lost 3-1. Coming a week after an impressive victory over Orient, Moore was frustrated.

“We are so inconsistent – we didn’t turn up to play like we can do,’’ he said. “We had a great opportunity to go three points off the play-offs. Instead we hand them three points without having to work for it.

“How many do I change for Tuesday? We have a decent enough squad. We were good last Sunday, so we went again with the midfield as they did well. But we can’t go with the same side again on Tuesday, that’s for sure.’’

Duckworth suffered muscled damage against Orient after being forced off with a severe bout of cramp.

Moore added: “Scott isn’t a right back, but we go through training sessions and have a look and you think it’s going to be OK. Josh Nearney is out on loan and we don’t want to play Nicky Featherstone there, he’s a centre-midfielder who can play there.

“Scott has learned what it’s like now and it won’t do him any harm knowing how hard right-back is.

“It’s tricky when someone is running at you. Ducky should be OK for Tuesday, but if he’s not then it’s a major problem.

“We have players who can move about, but I didn’t want to take Carl Magnay out of midfield and put him there.

“He gives us some steel in there, it’s food for thought. Tuesday won’t be easy, Mansfield wasn’t and we made it harder than it should be.

“The way we played second-half maybe flattered them a bit.’’

Stanley have won four of their last five in league and cup, including a victory at Cambridge on Saturday.

Pools’ loan winger Kai Naismith spent two seasons with the club before leaving for Portsmouth in the summer.

In losing at Stanley last season, Pools fielded Matt Crooks on loan from Huddersfield. His impact at Pools was minimal, but he’s impressed since signing for Stanley permanently.

He and Naismith were team-mates last season and Crooks said: “Kal’s a great player, he’s got great ability. I’ve seen that many times in training and in games as well.

“He just needs a run of games to get going again, and when he does, which he’s doing now, I think he’ll show his true potential.

“There were signs of it in the Sky game against Leyton Orient with the pass he made and nice bits of play. He does have the quality and I’m sure he’ll show it, but hopefully not against us.

“I can’t wait to see him. I’ve been talking to him all week. He said not to go near him because he was going to nutmeg me so I’ll try to stay away from his part of the field, but hopefully we win.”

Crooks said of Pools: “They had a little spell at the end of last season. They’re a good set of lads though and they did have quality, it just didn’t come through until right at the end.

“Kal’s got my 33 shirt there now. It will be good to see him and my mate Jake Carroll from Huddersfield who has signed for them.’’
