Spennymoor Town 3 Glossop North End 2.

Two well taken goals by Shane Henry put Moors into the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy with a 3-2 home win over Glossop tonight.

After a chanceless first 15 minutes, Moors nearly took the lead when Shane Henry tried to curl the ball towards the top corner from the corner of the box, but the ball went just wide of the post.

Moors broke the deadlock on 25 minutes when Liam Henderson put in a low cross from the right hand side, and Henry, making a late run into the six yard box, poked the ball past keeper Greg Hall at full stretch.

Gavin Cogdon opened up the Glossop defence with a great run down the left into the area, and set up Stephenson, but a defender blocked his shot.

But Glossop equalised with their first attempt on 32 minutes when Martyn Andrews picked up a low corner from Andrew Smart, and was given enough space by the Moors defence to turn and put a right foot shot through a crowded six yard box into the net.

However, Moors nearly regained the lead three minutes later when Stephenson found himself completely unmarked eight yards out, but Hall went full stretch and pushed the ball away.

Liam Henderson struck the bar from outside the box with the keeper beaten at the start of the second half, but for a 20 minute spell after that, Glossop got on top without really troubling Joe Fryer.

But it was Moors who broke through again on 72 minutes, with Henry hitting a powerful low shot from the edge of the area into the bottom right hand corner.

Two minutes later, Moors skipper Chris Mason made it 3-1, heading a near post corner from Stephenson into the net.

And Hall just managed to stop the fourth, with a good one-handed save from Nathan Fisher.

But Glossop didn’t give up, and sub Nick Alexander pulled a goal back from close range with six minutes left.

Moors are now at home to Goole in the next round on October 31st.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; "That was an excellent performance, we could have been out of sight with the chances that we had."
