STOCKTON table tennis star Karina Le Fevre will spearhead a young England squad for the Commonwealth Championships in India.

The 22-year-old Teessider, who was part of the England squad at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, features in an eight-strong contingent who will travel to Surat for the competition from December 16 -21.

She will line up alongside fellow Glasgow 2014 competitor Tin-Tin Ho, Maria Tsaptsinos and Lois Peake – all of whom are in their teens and together finished seventh in the team competition at July’s European Youth Championships in Bratislava.

Commonwealth Games team silver medallist Sam Walker leads the men’s squad alongside David McBeath, Helshan Weerasinghe and Tom Jarvis – the latter two were also in action in Bratislava.

Simon Mills, Table Tennis England’s head of coaching and performance, said: “These young players have earned the right to represent England through their recent performances.

“This is a big opportunity for them to continue their learning curves by competing at a prestigious international event, which is an important building block towards our objective to get our players to the top of the world game.”

The squad will be hoping to improve on England’s medal haul at the last Commonwealth Championships in Delhi in 2013, when they won three silvers and two bronzes.
