Player ratings from Newcastle's 2 - 0 loss to Swansea City at Liberty Stadium.
SWANSEA CITY: Fabianski 6; Naughton 6, Fernandez 7, Williams 7, Taylor 7; Cork 6, Shelvey 7; Sigurdsson 7 (Britton 86), Ayew 8 (Dyer 71), MONTERO 9 (Routledge 76); Gomis 7. Subs (not used): Nordfeldt, Eder, Rangel, Bartley.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-2-3-1):
5 Krul: Got nowhere near the goals and will be relieved he didn’t have to pick the ball out of his net more than he did;
3 Janmaat: Was fortunate not to be booked seconds after kick-off but then he picked up two unnecessary cautions that left the Magpies short handed
7 Mbemba: Started very positively but had to switch to right-back and found it harder
6 Coloccini: Outjumped by Ayew for the second but not to blame for anything else during the defeat
4 Haidara: Still looks short of the player who burst on to the scene a couple of years ago;
5 Colback: Stuck to the task of operating in front of the back four but never able to get hold of things
5 Anita: Moved around a lot and did what was asked of him even if Swansea’s midfield made it difficult for him;
6 Obertan: Had one decent run in the first half which ended with his shot being saved but that was that
4 Wijnaldum: Newcastle fans will be expecting more from the expensive buy from PSV but he hardly had any service in the final third
4 Sissoko: Had given the ball away cheaply three times before Swansea opened the scoring and was the man replaced after the sending off;
4 Cisse: Hardly got a touch, particularly in and around the penalty box, but that was down to service as much as anything else.
Subs:
Taylor (for Sissoko 46): Likely to replace the suspended Janmaat next week. 6
Aarons (for Cisse 54): Brushed too easily off the ball in the closing stages more than once. 4
Mitrovic (for Obertan 82)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Williamson, Perez, Tiote.
MAN OF THE MATCH
JEFFERSON Montero – Janmaat certainly failed to come to terms with his direct running and so did anyone else he came up against.
