My boss Michael Dods’s best three-year-old lines up at Newcastle on Saturday. Lord Of The Rock has improved with each run this season, culminating with an eight-length win in a maiden at the course last time.

He’s really impressed at home and the competition in the Beeswing Handicap doesn’t look overly hot. He should win.

And Lord Of The Rock could be the second leg of a double, as Aprovado has an excellent chance of racking up a four-timer in the preceding six-furlong handicap.

It took a while to win with him but he broke his duck on the seventh attempt and hasn’t looked back since.

Again he’s improving with each run and, like with Lord Of The Rock’s race, this looks winnable.

It could be a decent day as Stylish Boy has shown a good level of ability in his two runs for Richard Fahey. He runs in the opening seven-furlong maiden.

I don’t know too much about Sherry and Niceonemyson, but both look to have chances on the formbook too in the fillies’ race and five-furlong handicap. It could be a decent day.

At Ascot, the rain is adding some real interest to the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Golden Horn will still be very hard to beat but the softer conditions could shake things up and I see there has been money for Clever Cookie and Madame Chiang.

I do think Clever Cookie looks great value for at least a place as he will relish ease in the ground. He’s won both his races this season – at Group 3 and Listed level – and is clearly thriving.

A lot has been made of Adam Kirby being replaced in the race by Andrea Atzeni on Postponed.

Adam was at the receiving end of some choice words from John Gosden for his ride on Postponed at Royal Ascot. John felt that Adam had ridden an ill-judged race in keeping Frankie Dettori hemmed in on Eagle Top.

Whether that is the reason or not, Adam has now been replaced, but there have been bigger and better jockeys than Adam who have been in similar scenarios. I remember Mick Kinane being jocked off in his younger days – and it never stopped him. Adam won’t let it bother him and he’ll move on.

I heard there was a heated exchange of words between Frankie and Adam after the race. It can happen. Remember this is professional sport and things happen in the heat of the moment. On the whole, though, the weighing room is a pretty civilised place!

I wasn’t downbeat after Mecca’s Angel’s second in Ireland last Saturday. She was only beaten a neck by Stepper Point, who, let’s not forget, was runner-up in the King’s Stand and Nunthorpe last year, while third home, Moviesta, filed the same position in the Abbaye last year. So a line on that form puts her in Group 1 company.

However, I knew my fate as soon as I arrived at the course as the flags were flying and it was very windy. The ground dried out considerably throughout the day and went against us. Hopefully she will run in the Nunthorpe next, but it will be weather permitting.

Talking of Moviesta, I look forward to riding him in the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood next week. He won the race in 2013 and was third last year. The track really suits him and he should have a cracking chance.

I see James Doyle is 8-1 with Sky Bet for the Racing UK top jockey award – which looks a bit of a steal to me. He will have plenty of chances and rides Goodwood well.

He is also up there with Ryan Moore in my book. When I first saw him ten years ago, I thought he would be world class. He’s a top bloke as well and deserves all the success he’s getting.
