SCOTT Borthwick is confident Durham have a chance of pulling off their third run-chase of the season at Worcester today.

After making 103 and sharing a last-wicket stand of 95 with Graham Onions, he said: “We have chased over 250 to win twice already this season and this is a pitch you can bat on once you get in. The wickets we took in the last session have put us right back in it.”

Durham were 103 for nine when Onions went in to make an unbeaten 36 and Borthwick added: “He did a fantastic job. We started out just trying to bat as long as could in the hope of getting their bowlers into their second and third spells.

“Runs didn't come into at first and I told him I would face as many balls as I could. We got into a routine of me facing four balls an over and him two.

“In the end it was one of the best hundreds I have scored. There's a bit of in the surface and they pitched it up to try to get us driving, whereas our bowlers probably stuck to their normal lengths a bit too long.

“Jack Shantry offers something different and he takes a bit of getting used to.”

Borthwick revealed that in scoring his first runs, two to deep backward square leg, the throw-in had hit him on the helmet, which needed replacing.

“It's lucky I brought a spare one,” he said, adding that he had been disappointed to be given out lbw because he thought the ball was missing leg stump.

Worcester bowling coach Matt Mason said: “Those wickets tonight have put us on the back foot. But we are 190 ahead and it's tough to bat against the new ball on this pitch.”
