DICK ADVOCAAT may well have signed off his tenure as Sunderland boss with a defeat after Premier League champions Chelsea ended the campaign with a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
Advocaat, the head coach responsible for keeping the Black Cats up, will give a decision on his future next week and he saw Steven Fletcher mark his return to the side with a goal that frustrated the title-celebrating supporters in West London in the 26th minute.
But Chelsea responded in true Jose Mourinho fashion to turn the scoreline around to finish on a high without hitting top gear.
Diego Costa, who replaced the outgoing Blues legend Didier Drogba, converted a penalty to pull things level with seven minutes of the first half remaining after John O’Shea had tripped Juan Cuadrado.
And then former Newcastle striker Loic Remy, who spent last season on loan at St James’ Park from QPR, drilled in the second with 20 minutes left.
He had his own second of the afternoon with two minutes remaining. He got ahead of O'Shea to turn inn Nemanja Matic's cross.
