Radcliffe Borough 0 Spennymoor Town 0

Spennymoor got the point they wanted for a place in the play offs with a goalless draw at Radcliffe Borough on Saturday – and they could line up a rematch with Darlington.

Moors can’t finish any higher than fifth because they are four points behind Bamber Bridge with just one game left, and likewise they can’t be caught by Scarborough and Mossley.

So unless Salford and Quakers swop current places, then Moors will face Quakers in the next midweek.

Manager Jason Ainsley was pleased with a second clean sheet in four days, but he’s hoping that his forwards will enjoy more luck in front of goal.

“The conditions at Radcliffe weren’t conducive to playing good football, but again there were fine lines between scoring and not scoring,” he said. “Nathan Fisher hit the post with a good effort, while Liam Henderson was flagged offside.

“But at least we got the point we wanted, and now we’ve kept clean sheets in each of our last two games.

“I don’t think any of the other teams will fancy playing us in the play offs, we’re quite capable of playing some good football. Plus there’s no pressure on us, knowing that we’ve reached one of our objectives for the season.”

Ainsley put Gareth Young between the posts because first choice Adam McHugh is suspended for the play offs, but he didn’t have much to do.

The nearest either side came to scoring was a 25 yarder by Nathan Fisher that struck the post.
