Spennymoor hope to get the point they need to assure themselves of a place in the play offs when they go to Radcliffe Borough on Saturday.

Moors inched closer in midweek when they picked up a point against a well-drilled Lancaster City team, and there’s a six point gap between them and sixth placed Mossley.

They’ve won just once in their last five matches, but Ainsley is still pretty upbeat as they approach the crunch part of the season.

“I wasn’t too disappointed with the performance the other night. Everybody worked hard, but a team is only as good as its forwards. We need to turn 0-0 draws into 1-0 wins.

“Their manager, Darren Peacock, said that we were the best footballing side they’ve played this season, but that’s no consolation to me.

“We should get into the play offs now from this position, and we want to go into them at our best. I don’t think anybody will fancy playing us – I really hope the season lasts into May.”

Moors will definitely be without first choice keeper Adam McHugh for the play offs, while they are awaiting confirmation of Anthony Peacock’s punishment for his red card for retaliation on Tuesday night against Lancaster City, but it seems certain that he will have a three game ban and also miss the play offs.

“Peaks doesn’t go down easy, but he got frustrated at their defenders. They had three or four tugs at him as he made his run, and all through the match the ref didn’t give him any protection.”

Midfielder Andrew Stephenson, who has been one of Moors’ best players in recent weeks, could miss today’s game because of a niggling hamstring injury, so that could mean a start for John McReady.
