AITOR KARANKA has hailed magical Middlesbrough for delivering a performance worthy of beating one of the “best squads in the world” to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Second half goals from Patrick Bamford and Kike knocked Premier League champions Manchester City  out of the competition, sending 5,500 travelling Teessiders home delighted.

While City forced Middlesbrough keeper Tomas Mejias in to a number of first half saves, Karanka’s men turned on the style after the restart and could actually have won by more.

Karanka said: “I've been a manager for just 14 months and we were very close to winning in Liverpool (in the Capital One Cup) but the penalty shoot-out ended our dreams.
