HARROGATE’S John Parry made a positive start to the European Tour’s first tournament of 2015 in South Africa.

Parry, who earned the right to stay on the Tour through qualifying school, ended up tied 33rd at the South African Open on one-under after a final round 72. That was ten shots shy of leaders Charl Schwartzel and Andy Sullivan.

Close House’s Chris Paisley was two shots back on one over after he too finished with a 72.

Barnard Castle’s Rob Dinwiddie did not enjoy such a promising return. He missed the cut after two rounds of 74 and 77 in Johannesburg left him seven over on Friday.

Schwartzel,  who dropped four shots in the last five holes to endure a play-off, ended up losing out in his own country when Sullivan edged him out inn dramatic fashion on the first extra hole. Lee Slattery was in a third a shot further adrift.
