CHARLIE Wyke and Scott Harrison will play their final games for Hartlepool United tomorrow - but boss Paul Murray is hopeful of extending their stays.

The pair, striker Wyke from Middlesbrough and centre-half Harrison from Sunderland, will have chalked up the permitted 93-days allowed.

However, Murray feels staying with Pools for longer will be of benefit to all parties and wants the pair for longer.

Wyke is Pools’ top scorer with five goals, and both players have been regulars in the side after signing under previous boss Colin Cooper.

Murray said: “It’s the last weeks for the pair, at the moment they are going back to their parent clubs for sure and we are in discussions over their futures. We will be in talks and we would like them to come back.

“We are ticking over when it comes to getting players in, it’s not happened yet, but you never know something might crop up.’’

Murray has so far signed Scott Fenwick, Nicky Featherstone and Sidney Schmeltz, but is unlikely to add to his ranks before York visit tomorrow.

With Pools bottom of the Football League, signing for the club is not a big pull and Murray admits attracting players is proving problematic.

He said: said: “I can’t see any new signings coming in before the weekend, at the moment.

“It is difficult. You obviously have people who question whether they want to drop to a team bottom of the league.

“That is always an issue and a fact of life.

“Some don’t. So then we have to get ourselves out of this situation and move up the league.

“Then you become more attractive to particular players.

“Who really wants to come to Hartlepool at the bottom of the league and things don’t go well.

“I’m trying to bring the ones in who want to come here, who want to play for Hartlepool and for me.

“They are out there, it is just getting them.

“It has to be perfect for us and the club, first.

“Loan players are an important part, for us at the moment, and they will continue to be.

“You have seen what I have tried to do with Sidney and Nicky, if there are people out there who are free transfers and can do a job for us then I will go and do it.’’

After a disappointing performance at Southend last weekend, midfielder Matt Crooks has gone back to Huddersfield after a month on loan.

Murray said: “I spoke to Huddersfield about Matt and where his best position is, I have also spoke to Matt himself, and at the moment we are alright in that department.’’

Pools and tomorrow’s opponents York have both struggled this season and Murray watched them lose at AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup in midweek.

With three successive games to come at Victoria Park, Murray accepts the next few weeks will go a long way to shaping his side’s future.

Wycombe are at Pools a week tomorrow, before Blyth in the FA Cup two weeks today.

He said: “There’s been another full week on the training ground, great to get my ideas across. We went to Wimbledon, me and Willie on Tuesday night to watch York which was a right trek. But we did our homework on then.

“They will be 4-4-2, no doubt about that and we work towards the game. It’s a huge on for sure, it’s a six-pointer in November.

“We have drawn and won at home the last two games, so there’s a bit of form and we are really looking forward to it.

He added: “I’ve got my targets in mind, I’m hoping the players have their own points-wise too. If they perform to their potential we will be OK, we have quality in the squad. When you cross that line you must do your job. ‘’

“We have am FA Cup tie to come in a couple of weeks, but the focus has to be on this, nothing else. Blyth is a great tie, but this is hugely important and we get that message across.

“The crowd can play a part, they have been really good. We came back from two-down to Newport and it was fantastic.

“Then we got through a tricky tie and the crowd have been a big part of our progression.
