Jockey Kenny Johnson appears to have escaped serious injury after a heavy fall at Sedgefield resulted in him being taken to hospital by air ambulance.
Johnson was partnering Lord Brendy, trained by his father Bob, in the Durham Army Cadet Force Novices' Limited Handicap Chase when his mount came to grief at the first fence in the home straight with over a circuit still to run.
Johnson's mother, Ann, said: "He's had his scans and everything is looking OK at the moment, but they are keeping him in overnight.
"He has a very bad head, but hopefully he's OK."
Following the incident, Sedgefield's clerk of the course Sophie Barton said: "He was knocked out and has just started to come around.
"He was initially carried into the ambulance, but he has now been put on a spinal board and taken in the air ambulance to James Cook (University Hospital in Middlesbrough)."
There was a resultant delay to racing.
