PAUL DUMMETT is hoping Newcastle carry their current feel-good factor into Saturday lunch-time's Premier League game with Liverpool.

The Magpies recorded their best result of the season last night as they dumped holders Manchester City out of the Capital One Cup to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in almost a decade.

The 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium followed hot on the heels of back-to-back league wins over Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur, and completed a fantastic fortnight for a club that had been in deep trouble in the opening months of the season.

Saturday's game with Liverpool represents another significant test, but Dummett, who impressed after being switched to centre-half in yesterday's game, is hoping the upbeat mood helps Newcastle claim another positive result.

He said: "This win and the weekend result over Spurs will give us an awful lot of confidence going forwards.

"At the start of the season, we didn't pick up the results we wanted, but this week has been a really good one for us.

"Hopefully we can keep it going. We've got another tough game against Liverpool at the weekend, but there's abolutely no reason why we can't get another good result."

And having helped Newcastle win at Spurs in the league last weekend, the Wales international insists the Magpies have nothing to fear when they return to White Hart Lane in the week leading up to the Tyne-Wear derby.

Dummett said: "It was always going to be tough in the quarter finals.

"But as long as we have the same team spirit that we've showed today and fight, we can go there and win, just like we did on Sunday."
