TIM KRUL has given Alan Pardew a huge boost after declaring himself fit to play in goal for Newcastle United this weekend.

Krul had to withdraw from the Holland squad after suffering a worrying elbow injury in training.

But after returning to Tyneside for a scan, the goalkeeper and the Magpies are satisfied that he will be fit to face Leicester City on Saturday despite initially fearing he would miss out.

Pardew, whose side are still searching for a first Premier League win of the season, said: "We've got some good news ... Tim looks fine and he trained today so that scare's over for us.

"With Tim it could have been a recurrence of the injury he had before and that's what we were worried about. But he's trained and he's fine which is good because he played really well at Swansea.

"We need him to play well this season and it's a big year for him because he wants to get into that Dutch side regularly. The little scare he's had is no bad thing. He knows he's got to keep on top of everything.”

While Pardew is certain about Krul’s availability for the visit of the Foxes, he will determine the condition of both Cheik Tiote and Papiss Cisse during training on Friday.

Tiote and Cisse are due back later today after international duty respectively with Ivory Coast and Senegal against Congo and Tunisia. The Newcastle boss hopes both will be fine to face Leicester.

He said: "The two boys who travelled to Africa are not back yet (Tiote and Cisse) but reports are that they're both well.

"We're pleased about that particularly for Cheik who had a tough game and Ivory Coast were down to ten men for most of the second half but we'll have be careful with him.

“It'll just be a warm down for him. Tactically it's difficult for all the Premier League manager but we'll try and cram in as much as we can tomorrow before the game.

"Of course it's a worry when you've got players such a long way, away. You're just looking at your phone, hoping no messages come through which are negative. We've been lucky this time around.”
