Quakers striker Johnson calls off Wycombe transfer

Simon Johnson has completed a remarkable u-turn and returned to Darlington - four days after agreeing to sign for Wycombe Wanderers.

On Thursday the 23-year-old agreed to join Wycombe and appeared at a press conference, wearing a Chairboys shirt, stating that he wanted to help the Buckinghamshire club achieve promotion.

But having had a re-think before completing the deal, this morning Johnson returned to training with Quakers.

Darlington Chief Executive Jon Sotnick confirmed: "Simon has returned to training at the club. Although he agreed terms on Thursday Dave Penney received a call on Friday from Simon who said after discussing the deal with his family he was having second thoughts and would like to return to the club."

Darlington boss Dave Penney said: "We are more than happy to have Simon back at the club. We let Simon talk to Wycombe because he is out of contract in the summer. We said he was free to go down and discuss the deal with Wycombe but things have to be right for him. Having talked about it with his family this he wants to return to the club and he is more than welcome too. Simon returns to training with the team and naturally comes into contention for the trip to Macclesfield on Saturday."
