TOP TEESSIDE veteran Jim Bulman has his sights set on regaining his senior men’s title in tomorrow’s big 32nd Redcar Half Marathon, which has attracted an entry of over 1200 runners.

The 43-year-old Skelton fireman, who won in 2012, was knocked back to fourth last year, though he had the consolation of being the first over-40.

Now, after a sparkling year in which he has taken 18 age-group titles, losing out only to Morpeth’s Great Britain international Ian Hudspith in this month’s Great North Run, the New Marske Harrier will be one of the favourites to claim the senior crown on a traffic-free course at Redcar.

Bulman’s winning time two years ago was 71 mins 59 secs, but he brought down his personal-best time in the Tyneside race to 69 mins 36 secs. His main rivals today are expected to include Jarrow and Hebburn’s Andy Burn and Thirsk and Sowerby vet Gary Dunn.

Last year’s runner-up in the women’s event, Pocklington’s Helen Cross, will be hoping to go one better this time.

The 32-year-old, who was runner-up in last month’s Tees Pride 10K, has also taken the silver medals this year in the North Lincolnshire and York Brass Monkey half marathons.

A new event, over 5K is being introduced this year, starting ten minutes after the main race, which gets underway at 10am, while there will be a one mile fun run for juniors at 9.30am.
