Johnson leaves Darlington for Wycombe

Darlington today parted company with Simon Johnson who has joined Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

His contract was due to expire at the end of the season so Quakers have decided to sell him now rather than see him walk away for free in the summer.

The 23-year-old forward joined Darlington from Leeds United 18 months ago but struggled to replicate the form which had seen him play several times in the Premiership.

He has scored just once under Dave Penney, in the 3-1 win at Lincoln City in November, and he becomes the sixth player to leave the club since Penney was appointed manager in October.

"Wycombe enquired about Simon yesterday," revealed Penney. "He is out of contract in the summer, they put a bid in which we accepted and it's all been agreed.

"He's been a bit-part player for us and that's why we let him talk to Wycombe.

"For fringe players, if we're getting offered a figure for his services then it would be wrong not to take it."
