EXPERIENCED midfielder Tommy Miller thinks two Hartlepool United players have shown exactly what heights they can hit in League Two – and now it is time to do it every week.

Jack Compton and Scott Harrison turned in impressive displays for Pools in Saturday’s 2-0 win over in-form Shrewsbury Town.

And after finally earning a first home victory of the campaign, manager Colin Cooper will look to ensure they build on that when Tranmere head for Victoria Park this weekend.

Cooper mixed things up a bit in the way Hartlepool played against the Shrews, which saw Compton reintroduced to the starting line-up for the first time since the opening day defeat to Stevenage.

The 26-year-old winger, coupled with the performance of Ryan Brobbel and Jonathan Franks moving forward, brought a new dimension to the way the team attacked.

And Miller, more defensively minded than he was in his younger days with the club, said: “Compo came back in and was excellent. I have seen in training what he can do and he definitely has ability.

“For whatever reason he hasn’t been in the team of late but he got his chance on Saturday and certainly took it.

“He was a threat throughout and got some really good crosses in. It was a good, all-round team performance from us and excellent to win at Victoria Park.

“It is great to see the fans go away happy, with a smile on their faces. It has been a disappointing start for us but hopefully they went home happy that night and were proud of our performance.”

Harrison also came in for praise from Miller. The pair had a month together at Bury at the start of the year and were reunited on a pitch again last Saturday when Harrison played the first game of his loan from Sunderland.

The 21-year-old’s performance at the heart of the defence brought instant rewards, securing a clean sheet which paved the way for Hartlepool to secure three points for only the second time this season.

Miller said: “Scotty Harrison has come in, a young lad from Sunderland, I know him because he was at Bury with myself and we travelled down together.

“He is a great lad and obviously came into central defence alongside Matthew Bates and looked like he had been playing there for years.

Brobbel, meanwhile, has had his loan from Middlesbrough extended by a further month.
