DARLINGTON golfer Ella Crang finally got her hands on the Neasham Goblets mixed competition title after two years of finishing runner-up.

The 15-year-old, currently the junior captain at Darlington Golf Club, has had a memorable year and recently won the Race 2 Rockliffe order of Merit. She also won the Inter Counties Mixed title at Ryton with Harrison Hodgson.

Crang, a ten-handicapper, has plenty of potential and, after winning her club’s Chairmanship Cup in the junior championship by shooting a gross 78, she has already played in the St Andrews Ladies/Junior Open and the Scottish Under-16s Girls Championship at Strathmore.

NORTH-EAST duo Steven Hutchinson and Darren Grey tee off in the Fightmaster Cup in Scotland on Friday.

Less than half an hour away from Gleneagles, the pair will be part of a European team taking on North America in one-armed golf’s equivalent to the Ryder Cup.

Barnard Castle’s Hutchinson will play his first Fightmaster Cup over the next few days while Darlington’s Grey aims to keep Europe on song having played his part in two successes already since its inception in 2008.

A TEAM from Tynedale lifted the Great North Air Ambulance Trophy at Prudhoe when they posted a winning score of 117 points, with the team members averaging 38.5 points each.

The four-ball, pictured prior to teeing off and consisting of Pete Carson, Arnie White, Ritchie Kendrick and Trevor Hodge, claimed the victory in an annual competition organised by The Rotary Club of Tynedale.

Carson, who was the individual winner with 41 points, played alongside Tynedale vice captain White, team captain Kendrick and Tynedale member Hodge.

THE search is on to find the right person to help spearhead the drive to open up the game of golf to more people in Durham.

The county's Golf Partnership has a vacancy for a county development officer, whose role will be to grow and sustain the sport throughout the area.

Working with the county union, association and PGA, the job will include delivering a wide-ranging number of projects aimed at increasing participation in golf for all ages, genders and abilities.

The salary is £20,000 for 35 hours per week. The fixed term contract runs until March 31, 2017 and is on a self-employed basis. Travel and other expenses will be met.
