MATFEN HALL’S John Harrison has brought an end to a decent final day of the English Senior Open at Rockliffe Hall by putting himself in contention to finish in the top 20.

Harrison, the former Barnard Castle pro, birdied four and nine as well as posting an eagle at the seventh. He then birdied ten and 12 before ending bogey-bogey to post a four-under 68.

That meant he is current clubhouse leader on four-under, although still sits nine shots shy of overnight leader Cesar Monasterio.

The Argentine recovered from a bogey at the first to birdie. He also birdied the seventh to claim a three shot lead over Scotland's Andrew Oldcorn. Oldcorn turned in the shot of the day at the ninth when he holed an eight iron from 151 yards in front of the clubhouse.

Eaglescliffe’s Graeme Bell finished with a one-over 73 to end on one-over for the tournament. Hurworth’s Roger Roper has finished his tournament with a one-over 73 to finish on five-over.
