NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-1-4-1):
7 Krul: Made a couple of early stops to thwart the champions but had no answer to Silva’s winner;
6 Janmaat: Slotted in solidly as Mathieu Debuchy’s replacement and should only grow in confidence after his debut against the champions
8 Williamson: A pretty flawless display from the centre-back, with a number of blocks keeping City at bay
6 Coloccini: Had a fine afternoon with the one notable exception being when he left space for goalscorer Silva to exploit when he joined Williamson to try to stop Dzeko
7 Dummett: Vindicated the decision to start him at left-back with a strong performance in both directions;
6 Anita: Asked to keep things ticking over and did, but suffered an injury in the first half which eventually caught up with him;
8 CABELLA: Faded after the restart but was particularly impressive in the first half
7 Colback: Got through an incredible amount of work to keep the pressure on the blue shirts
6 Sissoko: Looks far more comfortable playing in the middle than he does when he is operating out wide
7 Gouffran: Denied an equaliser by Hart after the restart and was as full of running;
6 Riviere: Showed that his game possesses many assets but needs to show more composure
Subs: Obertan (for Anita 63): Quick to get involved and looked keen to take his chance. 6
Aarons (for Gouffran 74)
Perez (for Riviere 84)
(not used): Elliot (gk), Haidara, S Taylor, Abeid.
MANCHESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Hart 6; Clichy 7, Kompany 7, Demichelis 7, Kolarov 7; Fernando 7, Toure 6; Nasri 6 (Milner 78), SILVA 8, Jovetic 6 (Fernandinho 72); Dzeko 7 (Aguero 82). Subs (not used): Caballero (gk), Boyata, Zabaleta, Navas.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Remy Cabella – provided enough entertainment for the Newcastle fans to suggest he could become a fans’ favourite.
