SUNDERLAND have agreed a £2.5m deal with Brighton and Hove Albion for Will Buckley with the winger expected on Wearside for a medical later today.

Poyet tried to sign the 24-year-old in January, having previously worked with him at the Amex Stadium, but the south coast club refused to sell as they challenged for a top-six finish in the Championship.

Buckley played a leading role in helping Brighton reach the play-offs in May, but they were beaten over two legs by Derby County.

And now, having failed to win promotion to the Premier League, it appears the Seagulls have accepted the attacking midfielder is destined for the top flight.

West Brom are also understood to be tracking the winger, but it appears Buckley is keen to link up with the Black Cats head coach again.

Should the deal go through, Buckley will become the second arrival from the Amex Stadium following Liam Bridcutt's move in January.
