AFTER holding promotion contenders Doncaster Belles to a draw last weekend, Durham captain Caroline Dixon has targeted a second win of the season against Yeovil Town tomorrow (2pm).

The Wildcats make the long trip to the south west having recorded just one win in WSL 2, but they go into the game buoyed by their performance against title-chasing Belles last Saturday.

The result saw Andy Thorpe’s side move off the bottom of the table up to ninth and Dixon, who is Wildcats’ top scorer with four this season, admits the squad are now looking to close the gap on the teams above them with a win this weekend.

“We’re definitely looking for the win as they’re within touching distance and we can close the gap between us and them,” said Dixon, who has successfully converted from midfield to defence this season.

“We don’t know all that much about them so we will need to be on our toes and deal with whatever is thrown at us.

“It is sure to be a tough game, but it’s games like these that we need to be winning so we can climb up the table.”

Durham’s only victory came against London Bees in May when the Wildcats shrugged off a long journey to win 1-0. Dixon’s side face another gruelling this morning, but the former Manchester City player insists they will use time to their advantage.

She said: “I’m looking forward to an away trip because the team have been away from each other for a long time.

“We had the five-week break and then we’ve had a few home games so it will be nice to get on the bus and get some team bonding going and spend some quality time with the squad.”

The Wildcats will be without striker Rosie Young, who is moving to the USA to play for Saint Leo University in the NCAA League.

Meanwhile, Sunderland will look to extend their lead at the top of WSL 2 when they host Millwall today (12pm kick-off).

Claire Robinson’s side are four points clear after last weekend’s 2-0 win over Oxford with neighbours Durham holding second-placed Doncaster to a draw, but midfielder Rebekah Bass insists the Lady Black Cats will not be taking their foot of the gas.

“We can’t afford to be dropping points at this stage of the season so we need to be on top form from the start,” she said.

“We need to be winning every game to make sure we stay at the top, but Millwall are going well in the league so we know we’re in for a tough battle.”

Defender Hayley Sharp, who scored in last weekend’s win, insists the Lady Black Cats will have to be wary of a side that has already taken points from title rivals Doncaster.

She said: “They’re going to be a tough opposition to face. They’re coming here away from home to try and win and grind out a result and they’re going to come at us.

“But we’re also there to get the right result and to be positive and to think about ourselves. We’ll concentrate on us and play our own football.”

Tickets for Sunderland’s game are priced at £4 for adults, U18s/O65s £1, SAFC Men’s Season Ticket Holders £2.
