ALAN PARDEW watched Remy Cabella deliver a moment of magic in a Newcastle United shirt before singling out another of his summer recruits as a “class act” following his first appearance for the club.

Daryl Janmaat, a £5m signing from Feyenoord, came through his first 55 minutes for the Magpies in the 2-2 draw at Huddersfield Town and he will be given even more minutes against Real Sociedad this Sunday.

Janmaat had not played since appearing for Holland in the World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina but he did not look out of place at the John Smith’s Stadium, where he made numerous attempts to join in with the attacks and defended strongly.

The 25-year-old has replaced Mathieu Debuchy, who joined Arsenal for £12m, in the Newcastle ranks and Pardew is confident there is no need to worry about the new man set to play right-back this season on Tyneside.

He said: “He will play for us against Manchester City (August 17) there is no doubt about that. He is fit and injury free. He's had 60 minutes and hopefully he will get 80 on Sunday. He is a class act. It has been a bit harder for him as he has only just arrived. He has had two games and he will be tired.”

Newcastle have made plenty of progress on the transfer front this summer and most of the new-boys, with the exception of the injured Siem De Jong, had some part to play against Huddersfield.

Pardew is still looking to add another striker to his squad before the end of August, while he added Nottingham Forest £7m duo Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow earlier in the week.

While both have returned to Forest for the season on loan, the deals have caused a stir at the City Ground where Stuart Pearce has reacted with annoyance that they were sold against his advice.

But Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has hit back. He said: “The manager and I openly discussed the proposed sale of Karl and Jamaal and he was aware of the negotiations throughout.”

Pardew is unconcerned. He said: "Every time we sign a player we think it's good business. We think it's part of what we do. It's our judgement. They are two great assets for Newcastle United.”

Frenchman Remy Cabella delivered a little bit of magic in the dying moments at Huddersfield to prevent a frustrating defeat.

Cabella made the most of a late chance to dink a lovely chip over goalkeeper Joe Murphy to level things up when Huddersfield had threatened to end their pre-season preparations by defeating a Premier League side.

Newcastle had taken the lead when Emmanuel Riviere headed in his third for the club when the Magpies looked strong and full of decent ideas.

Huddersfield levelled with half-time on the horizon when debutant Radoslaw Majewski curled in a brilliant finish and then former Sunderland striker Jon Stead put the hosts in to the lead 25 minutes from the end. But then Cabella struck.

Another Riviere goal, this time playing in the hole behind lone striker Facundo Ferreyra, was one of the early bright spots of the night for Newcastle, while young substitutes Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez injected greater urgency going forward. Riviere stooped low inside the six yard box to nod in Yoann Gouffran’s cross following some effective work from Cabella in the 17th minute.

Majewski levelled things up. He turned inside the area and curled perfectly in to Tim Krul’s top left corner eight minutes before the break.

Huddersfield, who start their Championship season against Bournemouth at home on Saturday, brought on a completely different line-up for the second half, with the much-travelled Stead getting a couple of half chances.

Huddersfield did not have to wait too much longer. When Stead was sent clear, the chance appeared to have gone when he decided to side-step to his left. But his shot took a deflection off Fabricio Coloccini and lifted beyond the keeper 25 minutes from the end.

After that Aarons – who had a decent shout for a penalty waved away when he darted beyond his man and shot wide - and Perez made a couple of exciting runs in to the home box, but Murphy rarely had anything to seriously test him.

But Cabella was played in behind the defence with just Murphy to beat, he lifted it over him and the keeper’s touch could only help it in to the net with three minutes left.

Pardew said: “We knew at the weekend in Germany it was going to be a tough schedule for the four teams involved. Back to back is tough. We took this game on a Tuesday because it was a fatigue game for us.

"To play under fatigue, we coped with it quite well because Huddersfield had some good players. Like all Championship sides it is very difficult to know where they are going to finish in the league. They could be contenders and they could be good.”
