JACK LAUGHER will be targeting a second Commonwealth Games gold medal when he competes in the final of the 3m springboard competition tonight.

Ripon's Laugher was an emphatic winner of the 1m springboard final last night, and looked every bit as good as he qualified for the 3m final in first position this morning.

The 19-year-old posted a total score of 465.80 for his six dives, and will be joined in tonight's final by Harrogate's Oliver Dingley, who placed eighth with 387.05.

"It was a good performance, a good score, I’m very happy with it," said Laugher. "It was absolutely fantastic last night. I was hoping for a medal. To get a gold medal was amazing. But every competition is different and you can go from being amazing one day to being rubbish the next."

The 3m springboard is Laugher's preferred event, but the teenager was happy to step down in height to 1m last night rather than step up to the 10m platform, which is the chosen event of team-mate Tom Daley.

"I used to do platform as a kid," he said. "I was not doing 10m for a while and just diving from the 3m. My body has adapted to 3m now. And I am not the biggest fan of heights.”
