THE journey from South Yorkshire to Scotland paid off for Garry Moss as the trainer was on hand to welcome his two runners on the afternoon into the Ayr winner’s enclosure.
Despite having a stable of just a dozen horses, the Tickhill-based handler reached double figures for the season as Fredricka and The Dukkerer toughed it out in the hands of Jason Hart. Fredricka, who less than a fortnight ago finally broke her duck at the 15th attempt at Thirsk, was a 5-1 shot for the Download The Instabet App From BetVictor Handicap and knuckled down to fend off marketleader Classy Anne by a head.
“You can’t get there (the front) too early with her. She flicks her ears and has a look,” said Moss.
“Jason rode her last week and he had to commit her a bit early. I was surprised she got her head down and did it nicely. She’s gone and followed up.”
The Moss-Hart combination were on the scoresheet an hour later as 11-8 favourite The Dukkerer claimed division one of the Spincast At BetVictor Download The New App Handicap by a length and three-quarters from Berbice.
