JON FRANKS scored the only goal as Hartlepool United won at Bradford Park Avenue in their second pre-season friendly.

After thumping Billingham Town 9-0 in midweek, Pools travelled to the Conference North side and were given a tougher test.

The first half didn’t really get going and Pools keeper Scott Flinders twice made saves to keep his side level.

Marlon Harewood headed over a deep Michael Duckworth cross at the far post.

Pools started with two trialists, Eugen Bopp and Biko Bradnock-Brennan, with the latter playing 90 minutes at centre-half.

Colin Cooper made six changes just before the hour and two of his trialists, Tommy Miller and Michael Woods, both impressed.

And two of his replacements combined to score the only goal.

Left-back Darren Holden was played in down the left for Franks to sweep home from close range.

Pools: Flinders (Rafferty 46); Austin (Jones 82), Bates (Richards 59), Bradnock-Brennan, Duckworth (Holden 59), Parnaby (Miller 59), Walker (Franks 59), Compton (Woods 59), Bopp (Rowbotham 59), Harewood, James (Smith 82).
