EMMANUEL Riviere has arrived at Newcastle's Benton training ground to complete a medical ahead of his anticipated transfer from Monaco.

The Magpies have agreed a fee of around €8m for the French striker, who scored 14 goals in 44 appearances for Monaco.

The 24-year-old flew into the North-East late last night, and with the personal terms of his deal understood to already be agreed, his arrival should be officially confirmed later today.

He will become Newcastle's fifth signing of the summer, and swells an attacking line-up that has been shorn of Loic Remy, Shola Ameobi and Luuk de Jong since the end of last season.

He is not, however, expected to be part of the squad that flies to New Zealand on Friday ahead of a two-game tour.

Newcastle are also poised to confirm the £5m capture of Daryl Janmaat, with the Dutch full-back currently back in Holland after completing his own medical on Tuesday.

There is an agreement in place with Feyenoord to sign the right-back, but the confirmation of the transfer is on hold until Arsenal give the green light for the completion of their own £12m capture of Mathieu Debuchy.

That is believed to be imminent, but Newcastle will hold off completing the formalities of the Janmaat move until Debuchy's departure is rubber-stamped.
