Graeme Storm’s second US Open appearance turned in to a nightmare. After an encouraging opening round left him sitting decently placed on two over at Pinehurst, he lost his nerve after making a bogey six at the fifth. He was unable to recover and things deteriorated pretty quickly.
The Rockliffe Hall touring pro followed up a further bogey at the seventh with a double bogey at the next before starting the turn with a decent birdie four at the tenth.
The reprieve did not last long, though, and he dropped three shots at the 11th and then posted a double bogey on the following hole.
He dropped a further shot with a four at the 15th before making pars in the last three. The damage, though, had already been done and he ended well out of contention and faced an early return home.
ANOTHER Rockliffe Hall golfer, James Maw, narrowly missed out on winning a EuroPro Tour event yesterday.
Maw lost out in a three-man play-off to Morpeth’s Garrick Porteous at the FSC Invitational at The Astbury.
The pair had carded three round totals of ten under along with South African Darryn Lloyd. Porteous one-putted the second play-off hole when Maw had found the bunker on his approach to seal the win. Lloyd had dropped out after bogeying the first.
