NEWCASTLE UNITED face a fight to keep Mathieu Debuchy on Tyneside after the defender failed to rule out a summer move away from the club.

Debuchy’s future at St James’ Park has been the subject of speculation ever since fellow countryman and best friend Yohan Cabaye left the Magpies to join Paris St Germain in January. The right-back is only 18 months into a five-and-a-half year deal after signing from Lille for £5.5m in 2013, but his performances have alerted the interest of a number of clubs at home and abroad.

The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes of France’s 4-0 friendly win over Norway on Tuesday night and a good World Cup campaign would almost certainly ramp up the number of potential suitors.

AS Roma and PSG are both credited with an interest in Les Blues international, while it is understood Arsenal are also monitoring Debuchy with compatriot Bacary Sagna expected to leave the Emirates this summer.

After an influx of signings from across the channel in the last 18 months, the future of Newcastle’s French contingent is uncertain. They have already lost Cabaye and Loic Remy, who appears uninterested in making his loan switch permanent, while it is understood the Magpies will listen to offers for Hatem Ben Arfa, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

While they may be happy to lose that quartet, Newcastle are not keen to let Debuchy go, but when asked about his future during a press conference to preview France’s friendly with Paraguay, the right-back’s response suggested his future on Tyneside is in doubt, although any decision would be put on hold until after the World Cup.

“No, honestly, I did not hear about any talks over a possible transfer to table.

“For my part, I do not feel affected by it.

“I leave it to my agents to manage that and I remain focused on the World Cup.”

Despite a promising start to life at Newcastle, Yanga-Mbiwa’s future is also unclear. The centre half lost his place towards the end of last season but the Magpies are not keen to let him leave unless they can recoup a significant part of the £6.7m they paid Montpellier.

New Bordeaux boss Willy Sagnol is considering making a move for the 25-year-old, who has a stellar reputation in France helping Montpellier win the Ligue 1 title in 2011/12, but it remains to be seen whether they could match Newcastle’s valuation.

Meanwhile, the Magpies will face Malaga and the host club at the Schalke 04 pre-season tournament.

On Saturday, August 2, Pardew’s men will play the Spanish outfit in Gelsenkirchen, with a 3.30pm kick-off. And on the next day, United will take on Schalke 04 at 5.30pm. All games will take place at the VELTINS-Arena.

West Ham United will also take part, but the two Premier League sides are not due to play one another.

The official registered charity of Newcastle is to hold a special Golf Day at the De Vere Slaley Hall Hotel on Wednesday September 3 in association with Bidvest 3663.

The Newcastle United Foundation event will raise vital funds to help disadvantaged children, young people and their families across the region, with around 50,000 people benefitting from the organisation’s range of sport, health and educational projects each year.
