NEWCASTLE defender Curtis Good has been named in Australia’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad.

However, there is no place for Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams, whose Achilles injury has ruled him out of a place in Brazil.

Good, whose only senior appearance for the Magpies came in last August’s Capital One Cup tie at Morecambe, won his one and only international cap in March.

He would be a surprise inclusion in head coach Ange Postecoglou’s final 23-man party, but will hope to highlight his credentials in a series of forthcoming friendly games.

Preston’s Bailey Wright, Crystal Palace’s Mile Jedinak and Swindon’s Massimo Luongo have also been named in the provisional squad, along with former Middlesbrough trainee Luke Wilkshire, who is now with Dynamo Moscow.

Australia face a tough assignment this summer, as they have been drawn alongside Spain, Holland and Chile in Group B.

MIDDLESBROUGH goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos was a surprise omission from the provisional Greece squad that was announced yesterday.

After forcing his way into Boro’s first team in the second half of the season, it had been expected that Konstantopoulos would be named as one of Greece’s four potential goalkeepers for Brazil.

However, despite being told to keep himself fit at the end of the Championship season, the 35-year-old was not one of the players selected by Fernando Santos.

Fulham striker Konstantinos Mitroglou is included in the squad despite barely having featured since making an £11m switch to Craven Cottage in January, with Cottagers team-mate Giorgos Karagounis also selected.

Striker Georgios Samaras, who is leaving Celtic this summer, was the only other British-based player to be called up.

RADAMEL FALCAO has been selected in Colombia’s provisional squad despite having been sidelined since January.

The 28-year-old Monaco striker damaged his anterior cruciate ligaments at the turn of the year, but has been included in the 30-man group that head coach Jose Pekerman will trim to 23 on June 2.

SUNDERLAND manager Gustavo Poyet has been confirmed as part of ITV’s punditry team for Brazil, with ex-Middlesbrough midfielder Juninho due to line up as part of the BBC team in his homeland.

Poyet will join ex-Black Cats boss Roy Keane and former Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan as part of an ITV cast that will also feature World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro and England winger Andros Townsend.

Juninho, who is likely to be involved in the BBC’s coverage of Brazil vs Mexico on June 17, joins the likes of Thierry Henry, Rio Ferdinand, Clarence Seedorf and Brad Friedel on the corporation’s team.
