HARTLEPOOL UNITED ended their season on a disappointing note with a flat 2-0 defeat to Exeter City.

In front of another increased crowd, who took advantage of the £5 admission offer, Pools never got going, as the Grecians jumped above their out of sorts opponents in the league standings.

The visitors took the lead on 26 minutes, with a fine finish from from Jimmy Keohane.
After Pools’ midfielder Bradley Walker was robbed of possession by Matt Gill, Keohane took possession, rang forward and curled his finish in off the underside of the crossbar, to bring deserved applause from the home crowd.
Keohane could have made it two, but his close-range effort after being teed up by Wheeler was well saved by keeper Scott Flinders.
Wheeler made it two on 44 minutes, when he latched onto a long Gill pass and rounded Flinders to tap in.
Pools had a chance to get one back within a minute, after James Poole was fouled in the area. Jack Compton’s penalty, however, was well saved by keeper Christy Pym who dived to his left to save.

And, despite sending his players out for the second half very early, Pools boss Colin Cooper could only look on and see his side fall too easily to their tenth home defeat of the season.
