5:00pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 2
Bamber Bridge and Ramsbottom United drew, so in the play-off semi-final on Wednesday Darlington will play Ramsbottom, the team that beat DFC home and away...

4:57pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 2
All over. 2-1 to Burscough. Bit flat, game never got going. Hopson with DFC’s goal from the spot, but he suffered an injury late on and is a major doubt for Wednesday now.
NOW TIME FOR THE RUNNERS-UP TROPHY PRESENTATION! Brilliant...

4:57pm

Middlesbrough 3 Barnsley 1

Graham and a Tomlin brace win it for Boro after M'voto had opened the scoring for Barnsley.

4:54pm

Middlesbrough 3 Barnsley 1 (Tomlin, 90)

Tomlin grabs his second of the game from another Boro counter.

4:51pm

Middlesbrough 2 Barnsley 1 (Graham, 90)

Danny Graham finishes off a great break to put Boro ahead. Five mins left.

4:49pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 2
No blame being apportioned to Darlington for the trophy presentation, by the way. It’s the Evo-Stik League who insist on giving DFC the silverware.

4:46pm

4:41pm

4:41pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 1

Good chance for Pools - breakaway and Holden gets in the area, pushed shot wide from an angle. Barmby off, injured, Richards on, now gone 4-4-2.

4:35pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 2
A real end of season feel about this, almost a sense of ‘who cares’ when that last goal went in.

4:34pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 2
Another error by the ginger linesman leads to a second Burscough goal. Cross from the left rebounded into play off the post and as Darlington failed to clear an offside Mark Beesley fired home.

4:30pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 1

Jack Barmby (again...) lovely deft, left-footed lob over the keeper after a horrible headed pass back to his keeper Berry which landed way short.

Wild celebrations into the Thunderbirds....

4:29pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Attendance is a healthy 1,215, around 200 more than the average.

4:27pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Lovely passage of play starting with a kick by keeper Peter Jameson and involving Tom Young and Ian Ward before Dale Hopson crossed to the far post ends in Steven Johnson wastefully heading wide. Goal on a plate for him.

4:25pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 0

Barmby has had a couple of shots, one dealt with very uneasily by keeper Cole.

Poole on, for Franks.

4:19pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Tom Young and Matty Lovegreen, on for Gary Brown and Aiden O’Connor.
Means Ian Ward will play the 90 minutes – does that mean he won’t play on Wednesday?

4:16pm

Middlesbrough 1 Barnsley 1 (M'voto, 53, Tomlin, 54)

Manic few moments at the Riverside! Barnsley go ahead through M'voto, but Tomlin pulls one back a minute later. Crazy times.

4:15pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Steven Johnson for Nathan Fisher, 54mins.

4:11pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Gary Brown has re-entered the fray and appears to be okay. Good news.

4:09pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
This is not good. Second minute of the second half and Gary Brown is down, very unlike him to stay down.
He tried to make a challenge as Jordan Williams got a shot in, which went wide, and the captain stayed down and now requires treatment, may have twisted his ankle.

3:59pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1

3:53pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 0

One goal the difference, pressure free game I suppose. Oliver looking decent, neat and tidy in midfield.

3:52pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 0

One goal the difference, pressure free game I suppose. Oliver looking decent, neat and tidy in midfield.

3:50pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Not been the most thrilling game, yet we’ve two penalties, a red card and a linesman that loves waving his flag.

3:49pm

Middlesbrough 0 Barnsley 0

Chances galore for Boro before the break. Luke Steele has produced several top class saves to keep the hosts out. At the other end, Barnsley haven't played like a side desperate to win and look there for the taking.

3:49pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 0

One goal the difference, pressure free game I suppose.

3:49pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Shot from 18 yards by Joe Camozzi flicked over by Peter Jameson.

3:41pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Burscough defender Anthony Brown booked for pulling down winger Adam Mitchell.

3:41pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Close to a goal at both ends here. Darlington striker Ian Ward heads a good chance wide after an Adam Mitchell corner.
And then Darren Brookfield hooked in a cross to the far post that ended up sailing over Jameson and rebounded off the crossbar.

3:38pm

3:34pm

Middlesbrough 0 Barnsley 0

The visitors have had a couple of tame efforts on goal, butthey're yet to really test Dimi. Boro are passing it round well but are lacking quality in the final ball. Tomlin's just had two efforts saved with Reach flashing the ball across goal from the rebound.

3:33pm

Darlington 1 Burscough 1
Dale Hopson equalises from the spot after left-back Phil Quirk pulled Ian Ward’s shirt. The second penalty of the day and a good spot by referee Helen Conley.

3:32pm

Plymouth 1 Hartlepool 0

Banton puts Argyle in front on 30 mins. Drifted in from the left, walzed in between 3 defenders and fired across Flinders into the far corner

3:27pm

Darlington 0 Burscough 1
That was clever. A meaningless match like this and Burscough’s Mike Brown lunges in on debutant Aiden O’Connor. The visitors down to ten on 23 minutes.

3:23pm

3:21pm

Darlington 0 Burscough 1
Better by DFC. Adam Mitchell shot blocked by keeper’s legs after Ian Ward pulled it back from byline, Dale Hopson picked up the loose ball and a shot from edge of area was pushed wide by Tim Horn.

3:21pm

Darlington 0 Burscough 1
Going through the motions here. All very flat, no atmosphere in the stands or tempo on the pitch. On the plus side, Jameson appears to have recovered.

3:20pm

Middlesbrough 0 Barnsley 0

Couple of chances for Boro. Reach's superb cross almost finds Graham, before Tomlin plays in the striker in a central position. Shot goes wide.

3:19pm

Warming up at the bottom of Lg 2 - Torquay, Northampton and Bristol Rov winnning.

As it stands: Torquay bottom, Wycombe second bottom, then Northampton and Bristol Rov

3:14pm

Plymouth 0 Hartlepool 0

First chance for Pools - Oliver breaks from deep and shoots wide from 20 yards. He's looked confident and comfortable so far.

3:12pm

Darlington 0 Burscough 1
That was only the third goal Darlington have conceded inside the first ten minutes this season. That stat was brought to you by the Andrew Long stats page in the Darlington programme.
Very quiet here now, HP stunned into silence by that early goal and lengthy stoppage, when there were fears for Jameson.

3:12pm

Middlesbrough 0 Barnsley 0

Good start to the game. Adam Reach has looked lively on the left in opening few minutes. He's just had a shot on goal but couldn't keep it down. It's win or bust for Barnsley today, but they haven't tested Dimi yet.

3:07pm

Darlington 0 Burscough 1
Mark Beesley scores in the sixth minute from the penalty spot after a lengthy stoppage.
Jameson required treatment for considerable time and appeared to be discussed, but eventually decided he was able to continue.

3:05pm

Darlington 0 Burscough 0
Burscough’s Jordan Williams has won a penalty after colliding with keeper Peter Jameson after 78 seconds.
Alan White at fault, he dallied on the ball, Williams got a foot in and set Burscough on the attack, ending with Jameson punching the ball ahead of the striker, but referee Helen Conley believed a foul had been committed.
Bit of a delay here while Jameson undergoes treatment.

3:00pm

2:55pm

Darlington v Burscough
On the bench for Burscough is striker Jack Laird, who had a spell at Celtic Nation earlier this season.
The Scouser was in the youth system at Everton before moving to Oldham Athletic where he worked under Dave Penney and Martin Gray.
And I’ve since discovered that Burscough sub Danny Smith is, despite my previous update, not a goalkeeper. Blame Martin Gray.

2:50pm

2:49pm

2:47pm

2:47pm

Darlington v Burscough
Quakers will discover today who their opponents shall be in the play-off semi-final, either Bamber Bridge, Ramsbottom or Lancaster City.
Bamber and Ramsbottom face each other and a draw would be enough to ensure them both a play-off place, while Lancaster can only finish in the top five if Ramsbottom lose.
Quakers will face the fifth-placed team with the third and fourth playing each other.
Tickets for Wednesday’s game are on general sale today, with the latest figure sold believed to be 1,200.

2:44pm

2:44pm

Darlington v Burscough
With Wednesday’s play-off semi-final in mind, Darlington have named a youthful team for today’s game with Burscough.
Youth team players Aiden O’Connor, a left-back, and midfielder Adam Cocks come in for their first starts for Martin Gray’s side, which features three changes from Monday’s win over Wakefield.
Also coming into the side is striker Ian Ward, while dropping out of the line-up is David Dowson, Terry Galbraith and Jonny Davis.
Burscough name only two substitutes, one of which is a goalkeeper.

SUNDERLAND TEAM NEWS

Sunderland boss Gustavo Poyet has Phil Bardsley and Liam Bridcutt available, but must decide whether to disrupt a winning team. Bardsley has completed a two-match suspension, while Bridcutt has returned after personal issues were resolved, but Santiago Vergini and Lee Cattermole have performed excellently in the pair's respective roles in the last two games.

CARDIFF TEAM NEWS

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjear welcomes Craig Bellamy back, but while the former Newcastle striker has recovered from a virus, he too might only be on the bench.

Referee: Phil Dowd (Stoke-on-Trent)
Odds: Sunderland 10-11, Draw 11-4, Cardiff 100-30
It’s a fact: Sunderland’s last top-flight victory over Cardiff came in 1954, with the Wearsiders having failed in eight such meetings since.

Comment by Scott Wilson: On the evidence of their form this season, Sunderland could face more problems in a home game with Cardiff than they experienced at Chelsea last weekend. They need to win though, and while it will inevitably be nervous, I fancy they will.

Prediction: 2-1

5:23pm

The Northern Echo:

Argyle subs: Trotman, Berry, Purrington, Showunmi, Dawson, Harvey, Bocu
Pools subs: Rafferty (gk), Richards, Barmby, Hawkins, Compton, Jones, Rowbotham

HARTLEPOOL TEAM NEWS

Connor Oliver, on loan from Sunderland, will start in place of suspended Simon Walton. Jack Barmby and Jack Compton, Monday’s goal heroes, are pressing for a start.

Referee: Gary Sutton (Lincoln)
Odds: H13/10; D12/5; A13/5
It’s a fact: Almost 20 years ago, in May 1994, Pools ended their season with an 8-1 home defeat to Plymouth

Comment by Nick Loughlin: Pressure off after Monday’s late heroics, can Pools now end the season on a positive note?

Prediction: 1-1

5:21pm

The Northern Echo:

Middlesbrough subs: J Steele (gk), Gibson, Chalobah, Ledesma, Atkinson, Main, L Williams.
Barnsley subs: Turner (gk), Hassell, Woods, Frimpong, Noble-Lazarus, Proschwitz, McCourt.

MIDDLESBROUGH TEAM NEWS

Kei Kamara has started training again after recovering from hernia surgery. He will not be in contention, though. Otherwise Aitor Karanka has no fresh problems, so long term absentees Rhys Williams and Mustapha Carayol are the only players missing.

BARNSLEY TEAM NEWS

Barnsley have a number of injuries, mainly at right-back. Jack Hunt from Crystal Palace is out for the season with an ankle problem and Ryan McLoughlin, on loan from Liverpool, is a doubt with a hamstring injury. Peter Ramage is also missing with a hamstring injury, as is knee victim Jim O’Brien. Kelvin Etuhu is also a big doubt.

Referee: Darren Drysdale (Lincoln)
Odds: H evens; A 13/5; D 5/2
It's a fact: Of the nine times these two sides have met since Boro’s relegation in 2009, the Teessiders have won just three of them.

Comment by Paul Fraser: After the last two defeats, Karanka gave the impression that he will not settle for anything other than a Boro victory.

Prediction: 3-1
