GATESHEAD need a point from their final game of the season on Saturday to be guaranteed a place in the Skrill Conference Premier play-offs.
Today's 2-0 win at Macclesfield leaves the Heed three points clear of Braintree Town, who could only manage a 1-1 draw at Barnet.
As a result, Gateshead need only a point from this weekend's home game with Cambridge United to make certain of a play-off place. Ironically, if the table stays as it is, the two sides will meet again in the play-off semi-finals.
Today's win at the Moss Rose Ground came courtesy of goals from Colin Larkin and Marcus Maddison.
Larkin headed home Carl Magnay's cross before the break, with Maddison shooting home at the start of the second half after Larkin's pass had released him into the penalty area.
