THE 25th anniversary of Durham's County Championship win, when they beat Cornwall in the final at Twickenham, will be celebrated at a lunch in the Stockton clubhouse on March 22.

Hartlepool Rovers will provide the opposition that day and the history of Stockton v Rovers clashes will be the main theme of the occasion, to which all ex-players and administrators are invited.

There will be a special emphasis on some of the more prominent players who have represented both clubs. They include Bryan Dixon and Alan Brown, two of the four Stockton forwards who were in the Durham team which triumphed at Twickenham.

The others were props Graeme Naisbitt and Maurice Douthwaite, while another of the club's products was included in winger Dave Cooke, a West Hartlepool player at the time.

Cooke and Brown are among those who have promised to attend, along with three others who played for both clubs - John Moore, Tony Makin and Keith Murray. Craig Lee, who had a stint as Rovers' assistant coach, will also be there.

Pen pictures are being drawn up and there will be photographs and match reports of Stockton v Rovers games.

The cost of the buffet lunch is £5, which also covers entry to the game. Anyone seeking further details can contact John Coates on jpcoates_1978@yahoo.co.uk.
