MIDDLESBROUGH defender Rhys Williams will not play again this season.
Boro boss Aitor Karanka has confirmed the Australian requires surgery on the ruptured Achilles he suffered on Tuesday.
Williams, who will now miss the World Cup for the second consecutive time, was in tears at the Riverside Stadium in midweek when he fell awkwardly during a goalless draw with Wigan Atheltic.
He will now be pencilled in for an operation and is not expected to be back in training until pre season.
