DUTCH striker Luuk De Jong has arrived on Tyneside for a medical ahead of a move to Newcastle United.

De Jong’s current club Borussia Monchengladbach announced the news this morning following weeks of speculation the striker would join the Magpies this month.

The 23-year-old is expected to sign on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew tried to sign the Holland international 18 months ago but the German side pipped their English counterparts.

The news of De Jong’s imminent arrival will soften the blow for Newcastle, who have agreed to sell midfielder Yohan Cabaye to Paris St Germain.
