MATT PARR finished 27th in the men’s individual competition at the European Figure Skating Championships in Budapest.

Parr, who is from North Shields, will make his Winter Olympic debut next month, and this month’s European Championships are something of a warm-up for the team event in Sochi.

The North-Easterner posted a score of 49.32 in the short programme, but that was insufficient to progress to the final free section of the competition.

Spain’s Javier Fernandez claimed the gold medal, with Russia’s Sergei Voronov winning silver and the Czech Republic’s Tomas Verner taking bronze.
