YORKSHIRE opener Joe Sayers has announced his retirement from first-class cricket.

The 30-year-old made his debut for the White Rose in 2003 and has gone on to score 4,855 runs in 97 matches.

He retires as one of just seven Yorkshire players to have carried his bat through an innings more than once.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a professional cricketer with Yorkshire," Sayers said.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody associated with the club, in particular the supporters, and I wish the lads all the best for the 2014 season."
